Christopher Fleming, Co-Producer, Choreographer and Artistic Director
As a member of the New York City Ballet, Mr. Fleming danced principal roles in works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins. With Mr. Balanchine’s encouragement he embarked on a career as a choreographer and received a fellowship from the National Choreographic Institute.
He served as Artistic Director of Compañia Colombiana de Ballet at the Teatro Colon in Bogotá, Colombia, and at Bay Ballet Theatre in Tampa and The Rock School for Dance Education in Philadelphia.
He has choreographed a variety of works including The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Dracula, Gaspar – A Pirate Fantasy, Swan Lake and The Myth & Madness of Edgar Allan Poe.
His choreography has been seen in the following; K2, Honky Tonk Angels, Anne Frank And Me, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, and Candide!
He choreographed and staged the opening ceremonies for the world premiere of the international museum tour TITANIC The Exhibition. His Pas de Deux Opus Three was created for former Kirov Ballet principals, Elena Martinson and Andrei Ustinov.
In 2000, he created the rock and roll ballet Janis & Joe. He was commissioned by the Antonin Dvořák Opera House, in the Czech Republic to choreograph a work celebrating the life of Antonin Dvořák. He developed two new works for Russia’s St. Petersburg Male Ballet. He created Edge of Assurances for The Ohio Ballet He was co-commissioned by Dayton and Ohio Ballet to create a humorous baseball themed ballet Play Ball! – A Ballet in Nine Innings. He choreographed an ABC television special Degas and the Dance in addition to three Operas for The Sarasota Opera as well as Aida and Porgy and Bess for The Delaware Opera.From 2007 thru 2010 he choreographed and directed a new version of The Who’s Classic Rock Album, TOMMY, The 3 Musketeers, Strings, Far Rockaway, and a new ballet for Ballet Concierto of Puerto Rico.
In 2010, he introduced The Myth and the Madness of Edgar Allan Poe and began his own dance company BalletFleming.
His choreographic awards include silver medals at the Festival Des Arts Des St. Sauveur in Quebec, Canada, the silver medal from the International Competition in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Special Choreographic Award from the Youth American Grand Prix. Gold, silver and bronze medal winners at The Youth America Grand Prix, The Cuban National Ballet Competition, The Moscow International Ballet Competition, The New York International Ballet Competition and The USA International Ballet Competition have performed his works. Recently, he starred in and choreographed a piece for MTV’s hit program MADE. The program received the highest rating in MTV’s history. He has also choreographed for the award winning television show, Rescue Me.
Fleming’s dance experience reaches audiences all over the world and is shared with the readers of his blog “Adventures of the Traveling Ballet Master.”
In October of 2010, his new company, BalletFleming, premiered with his new full-length Ballet, The Myth and the Madness of Edgar Allan Poe.
