Camille McClellan - Additional Costumes

Camille McClellan - Additional CostumesCamille has been working in the theatre since she was six years old, starting on stage in operas at Troy State University in her hometown of Troy, Alabama.

She studied theatrical costuming and clothing design at the University of Alabama.

After college Camille joined her husband in Dallas, Texas where he was working toward his Master’s Degree in Theatre at the Dallas Theatre Centre. She began working as a free-lance costume designer while managing Collections (a high end clothing store) in Highland Park Village. Camille also designed a line of children’s clothing (“DuBop”) for six seasons while in Dallas.

Since 1981, Camille has designed and constructed costumes for more than 300 productions of ballet, opera, theatre and dance. Her love for producing designs for dance was sparked at the Dallas Ballet in 1985. Jennifer Craig-Curtis hired Camille to do the finishing decorative work for Swan Lake. He asked her to stay with the company and at that time taught her tutu construction and design, as well as construction techniques necessary for the comfort and movement of the dancer. She is one of only a few specialists in the country trained in the construction of European-style classical
ballet tutus.

Camille moved to Miami in 1987 as a master tutu maker for Miami City Ballet’s second season. During her
two seasons with MCB Camille also produced all of the dye work for the costume designer, managed
the shoe stock and worked as backstage wardrobe mistress. She had the pleasure of traveling with the
company overseas and throughout the United States as well as working at the Gusman Theatre, MCB’s
home performance space.

In the fall of 1989, Camille and her young family moved to her husband’s hometown of Lakeland,
Florida where they reside.

She is currently the resident costume designer for Theatre Winter Haven, and produces designs for
Southeastern University, Florida Southern College, Polk State College and numerous other companies.
Camille is the sole proprietor of Costumes By Camille.
